Grandparents sometimes ask themselves what in the world they can do with their grandkids when they come over or come for an occasional summer visit. But it’s not that hard … really. There are so many fun things to do outdoors and most kids love to do things outside anyways. And if they don’t, hey, let’s get them out for a little more sunshine and fresh air. It’s a grandparent duty.
Truthfully, if you check your local newspapers online they normally have an events section that lists all sorts of local happenings in your city or town. I just check the paper online yesterday and I came across free things that you can take grandkids to that are of varied interests. Events are always happening at local libraries and museums. In the summer, many cities feature free outdoor movies, fireworks and concerts.
We like to take advantage of our kayaks and take the kids out on the lake sometimes. Walks in the woods, picking berries and having an outdoor parade are all options too. How about fishing? Splashing in a local creek? The playground? Or playing catch in the backyard.
You can have a night time campfire and make smores, have a Firefly catching contest and even an ice cream eating contest. There is just so much natural fun to be had in the summertime. Make sure you spend some of it outdoors with your grandchildren. They will never forget it.
